Lecture and Event Series Identities for Columbia GSAPP

Between 2020–2022, Party of One Studio partnered with Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation to create unique visual identities for four consecutive semesters of lectures and events.

Each system was shaped by the school’s experimental use of materials and commitment to sustainability, taking distinct creative leaps to reflect the tone and spirit of each semester’s lineup.

Deliverables included a full-size poster featuring the complete lecture series, along with digital screens for each lecture and event. Later semesters included social content and individual event posters.

Spring 2022

To mark a transitional period in the department, this concept focused on raw, abstract materials in flux. Objects carry energy and organic potential, interacting fluidly across each application.

In print, forms were layered abstractly, while digital applications brought them to life. Each month featured its own object and color scheme, providing subtle coordination throughout the semester.

Fall 2021

Wanting to bring energy into a new year of remote learning shaped by COVID, a series of graphic, tactile animations was developed to re-engage students.

The work introduced movement, texture, and playful variation to each month’s assets, with animations deconstructed across mediums and continually evolving throughout the design process.

Spring 2021

This concept builds on the familiar shapes and layered elements of the previous semester’s studio pinboard, revealing abstract creative remnants.

The related design nods to past compositions while introducing a sense of lightness for the new year.

Fall 2020

As a response to the unknowns of 2020, the concept for these assets embraces uncertainty through versatility, layering, and playfulness.

Inspired by studio pinboards, the work nods to the range of references gathered in homes and makeshift workplaces, reflecting a shift toward new ways of being creative.
