The making of ‘Nutlord’ for Sunboy Spiked Coconut Water
SUNBOY is the world’s first spiked coconut water—a refreshingly hydrating, canned, and fizzy cocktail made with real fruit juices. Following their 2021 launch, the brand set out to expand its reach for summer 2023 with promotional merchandise and a signature coconut mascot.
Inspired by SUNBOY’s social sign-off—The Anti-Hustle Coconut Club for Leisurely Achievers and the Achievement of Leisure—we set out to develop the perfect mascot to help others find the leisure within.

Inspired by fruit sticker illustrations of humanoid fruits, we explored the personality of Sunboy’s coconut. Was he serene and peaceful? Was he mischievious? Was he drunk on his own supply?
We settled on a direction that struck a balance between energy and ease: an optimistic stance, hydrated and unbothered, with subtle nods to summertime fun—pool slides and socks, a curly straw, and a cocktail umbrella.

After refining the character’s form to mirror the smooth green coconuts used in the drink itself, our official ‘Nutlord’ (a term affectionately coined by one of the founders) was ready for action (or rather, active leisure).
In 2025, Lauren McFall was hired to create a physical mascot of Nutlord, and interpreted his 360 degree view to perfection....
These days, Nutlord can be spotted at most Sunboy events—bringing cuteness and chaos to every occasion.
